MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – Belarusian Air Defense personnel fired live ammunition in a military training area in Brest Oblast, the Defense Ministry told BelTA.
The personnel had to do operational launches using man-portable surface-to-air missile systems Igla, anti-aircraft twin-barreled autocannon ZU-23-2, air defense missile systems Strela-10 and Osa in the 174th training area of the Air Force and Air Defense Command.
Chief of the Ground Forces Air Defense Corps, Chief of the Group (of the Ground Forces Air Defense Corps) of the Air Force and Air Defense Command Sergei Butkevich remarked that due to the rapid development of air assault weapons, particularly unmanned aerial vehicles, the role of the air defense branch of the army has increased a lot.
“Army units and units of the Ground Forces Air Defense Corps of the Western Operational Command and the Northwestern Operational Command as well as the special operations forces demonstrated excellent and good results in the course of engaging real aviation and in the course of operational launches against simulated aerial targets,” he said.
